Acupuncture was developed in China thousands of years ago and has been used throughout the world. It is the practice of diagnosing an individuals’ energetic status and inserting fine sterile needles into very specific points on the skin. The stimulation of these ‘acupuncture points’, balances the underlying imbalances which cause ‘dis-ease’ in the body. It is a very precise and complex system which has been working over the course of time. During an acupuncture treatment, the body may release certain chemicals like endorphins, neurotransmitters, enzymes, etc. to guide the body to heal. A sense of ‘well-being’ and relaxation results when your body is ‘tuned’.

What is Acupuncture & How Does it Help?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine used to treat many issues including pain caused by muscle strain and joint issues. Acupuncture was first practiced in China starting around 2000 BC, but its origins are unclear.

After an initial assessment, the acupuncturist will develop a treatment plan and will then insert extremely thin, sterile needles into specific points along the body’s energy pathways (called meridians). The treatment is continued for 20-45 minutes.

When the needles are inserted they are connecting and manipulating the energy (qi), opening blockages which cause pain and also stimulating the production of the body’s innate chemicals such as neurotransmitters, enzymes, and endorphins. These chemicals help to produce a sense of well-being and by moving ‘qi’, relieving pain and stimulating natural healing in the body. There is evidence backing the claim that acupuncture has effects on psychological wellbeing as well as physical conditions.

People in pain often have low levels of endorphins and a release of those endorphins can suppress the sensation of pain. The points are also located near trigger points, spots on the body where pain radiates away from the center when pressed. Acupuncture may ease the stress on trigger points thereby lessening pain in that area.

This ties nicely into NUCCA- NUCCA is so unique in that there is no guesswork. After the first adjustment, and ONLY for the next 1-2 visits, a follow-up x-ray is used to ensure that the NUCCA adjustments were successful. We use x-rays to ensure that we’re actually making a difference in your life. We have the proven capability to determine if the treatments are working for you.

The doctor will run a detailed analysis to make sure that the subluxation is removed. There is never any guesswork with NUCCA! The Chiropractor will always know your progress every step of the way as you move towards better health with this unique upper cervical chiropractic procedure.
